You have the formal education, the experience and maybe even the title. Yet, you crave additional development of your leadership skills not just another business book or workshop, but something practical, actionable and real-world. The Complete Leader is for you. Executive coaches Randy Lisk and Ron Price combine experiences and tools gleaned from decades working with leaders from Fortune 100 companies to small businesses, to present twenty-five modules in The Complete Leader.
Each skill is organized around the four qualities necessary to leadership excellence. Presented in a way that is both customizable and scalable, each leadership competency utilizes practical tools for defining, practicing and becoming the greatest version of yourself. The companion site, TheCompleteLeader.org, includes individual assessments and furthers the ideas presented in each section, offering additional methods to deepen practice and learning. This combination of book, assessments and website round out a robust program designed for today's established executives and tomorrow's emerging leaders.
Jose Francisco (Paco) Ortiz Collado, Senior Vice president & General Manager of Zoetis Brazil, says this about The Complete Leader In 25 years leading teams with different cultures, I have never encountered a book about leadership that puts the concept in such a realistic and pragmatic way. It is highly beneficial that these concepts come from leaders like Ron and Randy, who have led organizations and have been able to connect the concepts with real-world experiences. The Complete Leader was a North American Book Award winner in 2014.

In spite of the so-far effusive reviews of this book, I found that this book lacks actionable recommendations. On a positive note, the book surveys the range of leadership competencies that we all must assess and visit for our personal growth. However, I found the discussion of each to be shallow and lacking in any really practical action plans. I also found that many of the chapters make heavy use of metaphors that often added nothing to the explication, and sometimes were not even apt! While the metaphors may have been an attempt to make an exhaustive inventory and definition of leader competencies material more entertaining, they were highly distracting when off the mark.
The heart of the book is its chapters on the individual leader competencies. I found that each of these chapters focused on defining the subject competency, resorting to the aforementioned metaphors as well as quotations that serve to break up the flow of hte exposition, for better or for worse, depending on the level of sophistication you are expecting in your leader development material.
In the introductory section, the book acknowledges that each chapter deserves a book of its own. So it aspires to be only a broad and superficial discussion of leadership competencies. I did not find this to be a compelling source from which I could derive an action plan.

The book was exceptionally thorough tying in several key principles essential to effective leadership. There was consistent deliverance of real world examples to emphasize the theories being taught.
Ron Price taps into a deep well of experience and understanding for his most recent book, The Complete Leader. I've had the pleasure of learning about Ron's purpose, mission, approaches and content in connection with this book. Upon reflection, there is one thing that became crystal clear to me, Ron has developed himself to be exactly what he has written - The Complete Leader. That makes all the difference.
Like most people, I have a bedside stack of books that I read once and set aside. I'm excited to now have an in-depth, perpetual guide that will allow me to work on current areas of limitation and then dig deeper as my ever-evolving work environment poses new challenges. It goes without saying that I recommend this book to anyone who considers him/herself a leader. Because life requires all people to lead at some point in their lives, I also recommend this book to anyone working on personal growth.
In a day and age when we are surrounded by many examples of manipulative, misguided, imbalanced and misdirected leadership, a call for authenticity is not only refreshing … but absolutely necessary. The first three sections of this book (Leaders Are Clear Thinkers - Leaders Lead Themselves - Leaders Lead Others) build to the climax of Part 4 - Leaders Are Authentic.
As Ron and Randy so clearly point out, "authenticity is the foundation on which all of the other [leadership] competencies are built."
I highly recommend that you read Part 4 of the book first, before you dive into the other great truths in this well-researched and well-written book.

I have been working with Ron for about a year and his philosophies are spot on. I have also taken a class from Randy and he is very engaging. This book is written in a way that gets thru all their content in short order, keeps you engaged and provides great insight in how to better yourself so you can lead the way great leaders lead. If you read this book and incorporate the web site into your personal reading and learning time, I am confident you will be a better person and leader at work, church and home.
The Complete Leader is a fantastic framework for modern leadership, offering structure and understanding around some of the most fundamental skills required by the modern leader. I appreciate this book because it provides plenty of structure, but also leaves room for leaders to see themselves and apply the framework to their organizational paradigm and personal leadership goals. Ron Price delivers an enjoyable read with excellent structure and this is a book I keep tabbed and noted for continual reference. This is a long lasting purchase and something you will go back to again and again.
