Must have book if you are interested in EM. The writer has done a wonderful job of putting together the essentials of the road to EM residency. Don't even think twice, GET IT!
This book goes through the residency application process in detail from away rotations, SLOE, to interviews and gives data to back up many recommendations. Written by someone who lived it themselves recently.
It's thoughtfully organized and easy to read. Definitely worth buying. Why go into such an important process blind and learn as you go? This book gives a framework to confidently develop a plan for the Match.
It turns out PDs were still giving us the same advice from 10 years ago! Several advisors have told us (average Step/clinical grades) to only apply to 20 programs, but the AVERAGE person applied to 48 programs last cycle. As stated in the book, this number increased by 10% the past few years, so if you're still applying to only 20-25 programs, you're at a major disadvantage!
This is the only resource that I've seen to give you advice with stats to back it up. It seems like the author spent a lot of time going through NRMP's website to extract all this info. He even has advice specifically for DOs and IMGs.
Anyway, I'm applying for this cycle and can't believe I found this book! Good luck everyone!
Great book, especially for students without a home program. All the latest data is included, with tips for success from recently matched applicants. I will definitely be consulting this during my application cycle.
